San Jose Sharks goalie James Reimer decided not to take part in pregame warmups Saturday night, claiming the support of the LGBTQ community opposes his religious beliefs.
Reimer made sure to come up with a statement saying that he always treats everyone with respect and it is important that members of the LGBTQ community should be welcome in hockey.
“In this specific instance, I am choosing not to endorse something that is counter to my personal convictions, which are based on the Bible, the highest authority in life,” Reimer said.

Reimer isn’t alone. In addition to him, the New York Rangers also declined to wear the same LGBTQ-themed warmup jersey or even use Pride stick tape as part of their night in January.
James Reimer announced that on Twitter before the game against the NY Islanders as opposed to his team who said in a statement that they will be proud to host Pride Night, saying the event reinforces the team’s commitment to tolerance.
Now we got to give Reimer some credit for standing up for what he believes in, in the world of today where if you consider yourself a religious or a follower of the bible, you automatically expose yourself to so many ignorants who mock religion and can’t accept the fact that there are people who would think differently or disagree with their ideology and agenda.
From this aspect, Reimer is considered a minority and be sure there are other people who would consider themselves religious or spiritual, and still would go along with it and put that jersey on cuz it’s so easy to be socially dragged into doing stuff you don’t necessarily agree with, but they’ll do it anyway since they’re afraid to hurt their feelings, but not when it comes to people with a solid spine as James Reimer. You just earned my respect buddy.
