So get this, against all odds, the retrial of Commonwealth v. Karen Read actually managed to lock in 16 jurors after two straight weeks of jury duty chaos. They’re aiming for 18 total before opening arguments kick off (don’t worry, only 12 actually decide the case — the extras are just backup in case someone flakes or pulls a “nah, I’m out” halfway through). And yeah, that might seem like baby steps, but considering half of Massachusetts has been screaming about this case nonstop — especially in 2024 — the fact that they found sixteen people from Norfolk County who haven’t made up their minds yet is honestly kinda wild.
To put it in sports terms: the old legends (think Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, etc.) are walking to the tee box, we’re still in the “wave to the crowd” stage, and the actual game’s about to start. This thing’s finally getting real.
So why is Karen Read still out here doing interviews like she’s promoting an album drop instead of, y’know, fighting a murder charge? Like, how is this still happening? Who’s letting her talk into every mic she sees? If her legal team okayed those interviews she did for that Max docuseries a few weeks ago… bro, fire your PR guy and maybe your whole squad while you’re at it.
I watched that series. Nobody looked good. Her lawyers were giving daytime commercial for slip-and-fall lawsuits energy, all dramatic looks and “we fight for YOU!” lines. Not exactly courtroom confidence boosters. And the fact that she’s casually listing off vodka doubles like it’s Thirsty Thursday? Girl. No. Just… no.
But all that mess? That’s not even the worst of it. The real facepalm came when she dropped a soundbite in a Vanity Fair interview that basically said, “I would’ve cheered for OJ’s acquittal.” 😬
Yeah. That OJ.

Look, if you wanna say “I was falsely accused” and compare yourself to, like, Salem witches or some courtroom underdog, fine. Go off. But OJ?? You really looked at that guy and went, “Yep, same vibe”? That’s like stepping into a PR landmine on purpose. Even people who agreed with the not guilty verdict aren’t out here pretending OJ didn’t do it — they’re just mad at the cops.
So what people are hearing isn’t “I relate to an unfair trial,” it’s: “I, too, got away with murder.” Yikes.
Bottom line: Karen, girl, stop talking. Even if you believe the cops botched the case, even if your whole defense is built around being railroaded — every time you open your mouth, you’re making it worse. You’re not helping your case. You’re giving people main character in a true crime doc who totally did it vibes.
If I were her lawyer? I’d just hit her with a gentle, “Hey champ, maybe… let’s take a break from the interviews, yeah?”
Like Ben Franklin (probably) said: better to stay quiet and maybe be seen as guilty, than to speak up and sound like someone who just confessed on a podcast.
As it’s covered all over the news including on social media where ppl are quite divided with their opinion on whether she’s onncoent or not I mean lets take a look at this post on X from “Mom Juggling Life”:
“Why I believe Karen Read is innocent:
1) physics and science. I hate the term trust the science and am borderline traumatized by it from Fauci and company but in this case I do trust the science and basic common sense. The lack of body damage to the vehicle has always been a problem to me. You can’t hit a 6’1” man at 26 mph and throw him several feet without significant damage to the car. Lack of physical injuries to John. As Karen said no bruising in the abdomen. His arm couldn’t shatter a polycarbonate light. No one has been able to recreate this, but people have tried bashing them with frozen meat and haven’t been able to crack it.
2) the CW will never be able to properly recreate their theory because the exact location of the body was never tagged.
3)destruction of phones and SIM cards; innocent people don’t do that.
4) I try not to read too much into the Jen McCabe demeanor during the finding of John’s body because I’m a delayed reaction person. It takes awhile for things to hit me. I watched my FIL take his last breath and I couldn’t cry until later that day. I’ve always been like that. Sometimes with some people it takes time for the totality of the situation to sink in.
5) while I’m not as put off by Jen’s demeanor in the 911 call as others. The blatent nonsensical lies are what get me; “Karen asked me to google while praying in a police car”. Not on video when it should have been; “Karen showed us the broken taillight at John’s house”, but they all ran in the house. There was no show and tell of the taillight
6) the McAlberts remember the seating chart at the Waterfall and what everyone was drinking but can’t remember basic timeline details
7) John has no frostbite. Once again the CW defies science.
8) I will never understand how the investigators couldn’t find a taillight that contrasts with the snow but were able to find clear glass 9) the timeline presented by the CW and the witness statements is contradictory. 10) DOJ doesn’t launch investigations on a whim 11) I know I’m missing some here. Please weigh in. I love discussing the evidence or lack there of. Bang bang”
while some others didn’t accept those claims like “MissJe11” quoted: “Your theories are baseless & wrong. Stick with facts. Karen admitted it, and said he didn’t look mortally wounded after she hit him. His hair was on her bumper so if she hit his head, there wouldn’t be other injuries. Stop focusing on witnesses that were cleared! Get a new hobby”
So obviously this case is gonna draw more attention and fire from both sides and I’m just as curious as anyone on how this story is gonna unfold
