The NHL Department Of Player Safety has reportedly handed down a two-game suspension to Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn for cross-checking right to the neck of the Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone early into last night’s game 3 of the Western Conference Final.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, that’s the incident everyone is talking about
The way I see it, this “incident” doesn’t look like anything except an innocent attempt of a player who try to embrace himself while falling, and sure using your stick to do that can be a bit tricky when other player’s face, in this case, Mark Stone’s face was in the landing point but seriously what Jamie was supposed to do here? in this kinda situation where things go so fast, especially in a game of hockey where you naturally need to think fast while moving and playing. Plus, if I was Mark Stone I would angle my entire body toward the ice for safety while falling. I mean shit happens and this is the kind of situation where it’s nobody’s fault. Is bracing yourself for the impact a crime? I don’t know, is falling on your back right in front of the player you just tried to stop a crime? Maybe Stone shouldn’t have had his face where Jamie Benn was bracing himself for a fall. Maybe Stone should get suspended for causing Benn to be off balance. It’s not like Benn has a sketchy history or anything
Sure, Benn was lucky for not causing any serious injury to Stone since it could easily be a broken jaw but that’s not what happened luckily.
I think the two-game suspension is way too much for Ben. They could let him off the hook with just one game suspension max but that’s just me, and of course, if Benn did that on purpose then obviously that would be completely stupid and selfish. I don’t think anyone would bat an eye if the Stars stripped him of the C next year and gave it to Pav who is objectively a better and more important player for the Stars at this point.
