A Washington Baseball Player Was Ejected From A Game For ‘Excessive Celebration’
Check this video out below and see for yourself. An unbelievably ridiculous call by the ref who decided to eject Washington first baseman Will Simpson after hitting a game-tying home run in the Huskies’ opening series against Santa Clara just 2 days ago. It happened right after Simpson hit the homer and then did what most players who want nothing but win games for their teams – celebrating with a mild high five with their teammate, flipping the bat, and underlining “Washington” across his chest in the dugout.
Unless the ref is a Santa Clara fan, I can’t understand how that was the call for a mild celebration as Simpson didn’t look to break any rule nor provoke anyone. It just doesn’t add up since I haven’t seen anything unusual and I can guarantee that Simpson didn’t celebrate the hardest of anyone on his team.
Maybe college baseball referees have been told to cut down on the amount of celebrations during a game this season, and even if that’s the case, this is preposterous. Even the whole high-five jump seemed to be initiated by his teammates so give the man a break.
College baseball has had so many ways players found to celebrate their wins over the past years and this isn’t unusual in our landscape so obviously it was an idiotic call which I can’t wrap my mind around given the fact I’ve seen much more excessive celebrations than this one and let alone how it bums other players let alone fans who expect to see that from the players because it is part of the show.
Such a shame!
