Jorge Masvidal Has Announced His Retirement After Losing To Gilbert Burns

Jeorge Masvidal

The 38-year-old Miami-born fighter has retired after losing to Gilbert Burns at the UFC co-main event in Miami, which wraps up his career after 20 years as an active fighter plus a single year as a boxer.

Gilbert Burns simply took over and dominated the hometown hero for three straight rounds in tonight’s co-main event by besting and grappling him on the ground as he could do pretty much anything he wanted despite the hope pinned by his home crowd, and I will lie if say that I didn’t see this coming right after the first minutes of the first round. Burns was just too good and a few levels above him. Another thing some of us could expect is his retirement as he implied before the fight.

Masvidal has shown a lot of gratitude towards his crowd for supporting him, throughout the fight and said that sometimes your favorite basketball player doesn’t have their 3 pointer anymore and that’s what he feels about himself as he longer the same as he used to in the cage. Masvidal also thanked Donald Trump for his support and also shouted out Ron Desantis before walking out of the cage for the last time while chanting “LET’S GO BRANDON”.

Now let’s consider the possibility of returning from his retirement. I mean we all saw what happened with Nate Diaz as many others who were alluded to make a comeback, and I’m not saying he will, but who knows? Coming back from retirement, especially in this sport can’t be determined to be final. The guy can still compete against many others he could potentially beat. Just a thought.

Masvidal’s journey to mainstream superstardom over the years is something that deserves to be mentioned. and his flying knee knockout over Ben Askren is STILL the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in real life. Thanks you Jeorge for 20 years of dedication and entertainment.
